Why I paint

Landscape painting gives pleasure, at least that is why I paint. Being able to catch the moment of surrounding world provides great satisfaction. I am absolutely self-taught about the painting, in other words grown up enthusiast. I believe that for this kind of relaxation is never too late. Blogging will help track my progress as an painter.

Malování krajiny mi přináší radost a proto vlastně maluji.

Winter Oak Tree

Winter Oak Tree watercolour painting - step by step demonstration.

For this painting I chose Terschelling rough 300gm/m2 paper, masking fluid, pencil 2H,
Ultramarine fines and Sepia brown colours from Schmincke horadam, 2 round brushes,  one small detailed brush no.1.

I drew the tree in pencil outline and then applied masking fluid on most of the snow area on the tree trunk and branches.

The sky was completely wetted with clean water, then ultramarine finest was added.
Then I took a thick paper towel and dabbed while paper was still wet to form clouds.

Then pre-wett the trunk of oak and applied sepia brown in several layers, and while still wet I lighted some parts of the trunk with clean brush...

Adding some ultramarine to snow on the ground.

Remove masking fluid, add some shadow to tree snow by mix of brown and ultramarine colour.

I´m afraid that snow is too sparse and tree bark looks to much unreal, so at least clouds displayed in distance appear real :)
